How To Clean Oil In Deep Fryer?
Cleaning is an essential step that you must go through to keep any appliance in perfect condition. Whether used daily or for occasional moments, the fryer requires maintenance. However, the type of maintenance to be undertaken depends on the type of fryer you have chosen, because not all fryers are created equal. The classic oil fryer is arguably the most difficult to clean.
First of all, it causes fatty deposits on the top of the fryer after a few uses. You need to replaced oil from time to time. However, it is even more so in oil-free fryers where food is cooked with a single spoon of oil. The fries obtained are thus low in fat or less than 3%.
Clean the fryer
Before cleaning your electric fryer, please unplug the appliance and allow the entire structure to cool for safety reasons. Start on the surface, sponging with dishwashing liquid, the exterior, and the lid before moving on to the interior elements.
If necessary, perform this task at the end of the day, especially with a professional fryer. Insist on the edge of the tank where the residues tend to settle. Do not assemble the whole immediately, rather let them dry in the open air overnight to start pleasantly the next day with clean equipment. It is also essential to clean the fryer after each oil change.
The different cleaning solutions
Boiling water: this trick works well for most appliances. The concept is extremely simple, just boil water, and pour it inside the fryer, adding detergent.
Soda crystals: this cleaning method consists of pouring soda crystals into the fryer, adding hot water and a little white vinegar. This mixture will produce a kind of gas evolution. Admittedly, it will be a bit spectacular, but it poses no danger. On the contrary, this solution is really effective for cleaning your fryer. For a cup of soda, count 1 liter of hot water.
Flour: easy to make, this method aims to sprinkle the walls of the fryer with flour. Then rub the excess fat with a paper towel which will absorb the flour. To finalize the cleaning, apply white vinegar.
The cleaning product for the oven: the surface of the oven and that of the fryer are quite similar. Therefore, the product to clean the oven acts effectively on the fryer. Regarding the cleaning of the latter, spray the detergent on it, leave to act for a few seconds and rub lightly. Please wear household gloves when doing this.
Cheik’s solution: this solution was proposed by a surfer who used a high-dose St-Marc Laundry Detergent, added to the dishwashing liquid and very hot water. The principle is to soak the part to be cleaned for 5 minutes, and turn and play. It remains only to polish the persistent stains with a toothbrush. The result is guaranteed.
Clean the basket
The frying basket must also be cleaned. However, it can easily be put in the dishwasher, which avoids wasting time polishing this equipment. Before using it again, wait until it is completely dry, because the water dropped into the heated oil will cause splashes when the fryer returns to temperature.
Clean the top
If you are using a conventional fryer, here are some tips for degreasing the top of the fryer. Soak paper towels with household alcohol, then apply them. It is really effective in removing the fats that make this area ugly.
Clean the back
When cleaning the fryer, we often forget to take care of its external bottom. However, this is the part that arises directly on the work plan. In the event of poor maintenance, your fryer may leave a trace of fat which is difficult to remove. To do this, gently spray the bottom of the fryer with a cleaning product like the one you use with your electric oven. Rinse, then dry thoroughly.
This step is undoubtedly the most important because it can decide in your favor by allowing you to make perfect fries or on the contrary to miss all your fries. If your fryer is not equipped with automatic filtration, remember to filter the oil between each frying. This operation aims to eliminate small residues which can pass through the basket. If you cook breaded food, remove excess breading that builds up in the oil. Finally, always top up the oil level up to the indicated line.
Some recommendations for frying oil
You are strongly recommended to change the oil after 10 frying maximum.
You should avoid mixing new oil and used oil when frying unless if you have insufficient for your frying. Do not use either, an oil bath that has stagnated for several months. By filtering the oil from the fry after each use, gently wash the inside of the pan. As soon as the fryer is no longer in use, cover the oil bath to avoid dust contamination.
Otherwise, to keep the oil from becoming rancid, keep it away from light, then add a tablespoon of sugar to the fryer. Finally, thoroughly clean your fryer before each oil change. To do this, wash with a sponge soaked in dish soap.
When changing the oil, avoid pouring it into drains, toilets, or sinks. Like waste oil, this oil is an environmentally harmful waste. Put your used oil in a container and contact a recycling center that will indicate the appropriate place to deposit the container. On the other hand, if you want to reuse the oil at a later time, remember to filter it by keeping it in tightly closed bottles in the fridge.
